The LTO technology is a powerful, scalable, adaptable open tape format developed and continuously enhanced to help address the growing demands of data protection in the midrange to enterprise-class server environments.
LTO 5 is the first LTO tape to allow dual partitions that can be independently accessed, providing improved data management and faster access to data. This feature enables the new Linear Tape File System (LTFS), which, if utilized, results in a self-describing tape that gives the ability to manage files directly on the tape and allows files to be viewed or accessed in much the same way as a disk or flash drive.
In addition, LTO Ultrium 5 technology offers AES 256-bit encryption capability that increases the performance value of tape storage in terms of security, and reinforces its importance as a reliable high-performance storage solution.
LTO Ultrium 5 is the third generation in the LTO Ultrium Roadmap to support WORM (Write Once Read Many) functionality. The LTO 5 specifications include the ability for WORM enabled and non-WORM enabled drives to co-exist and provides users with very cost-effective means of storing data in a non-erasable, non-writeable format.

• High capacity and transfer rates
  Fujifilm's NANOCUBIC technology has achieved LTO G5 data cartridge to have the capacity of 3.0TB by recording 1,280 data tracks within 12.65mm tape width. Also with the utilization of multi-channel recording technology, LTO G5 data cartridge featured transfer rates of up to 280Mbps.
• Reel design
  As the tape length increases, there is a tendency of increased pressure on the hub. The potential risk of causing hub deformation may increase. This will lead to unexpected deformation, such as tape edge damage or other physical anomalies. In order to avoid such hub deformation, Fujifilm has successfully achieved both running stability in the drive and high archival life.

  For LTO G5 development, Fujifilm has further advanced the NANOCUBIC technology with the following key technologies and has successfully achieved higher recording density.
• Fujifilm Servo technology
  LTO Ultrium technology relies heavily on timing-based, high-precision servo control to achieve its remarkable performance levels. LTO Ultrium data cartridge uses dual servo tracks that have been precisely written along the entire length of each of its four data bands, for extremely fine placement control and redundancy in the event of tape damages.
• Environmental products
  BFR (Brominated Flame Retardants) has been eliminated from all LTO G5 mechanical parts in order to become more environmentally-friendly.
